3 Carpet Cleaning Tips that Will Save Your Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, it’s a smart idea to have a handful of carpet cleaning tips at your disposal. Everyone in your family loves a festive holiday get-together, but the cleanup? Not so much. And as delicious as it may be, a Thanksgiving dinner can do some severe damage to your home’s carpet. Here’s some carpet cleaning tips to keep in mind as Turkey Day draws near.

3 Carpet Cleaning Tips that Will Save Your Thanksgiving

Your Carpet Cleaning Supplies List

To be prepared for the worst on Thanksgiving, make sure to keep some necessary carpet cleaning supplies on deck. Carpet cleaning can be tricky without the right supplies. Here’s a simple list that should cover most types of spills. If none of these supplies work, consider calling an expert from Hydro-Clean Certified Restoration to get the job done!

  • Clean, white cotton towels
  • Dawn Dish Soap
  • Cornstarch
  • White wine
  • White vinegar
  • Spray bottle

How to Remove Gravy

If you’ve spilled thick turkey gravy onto your carpet, you might be wondering how to get it out quick. Remove as much of the gravy as you can from your carpet using a spoon or other utensil. Next, sprinkle a bit of cornstarch onto the spilled gravy, and let that soak for about 15 minutes. Then vacuum or sweep up the cornstarch, which should have absorbed up the gravy and grease. Next, use a half and half mixture of white vinegar and water in your spray bottle to clean up the spot of the spill.

How to Remove Cranberry Sauce

Any cranberry spill (juice or sauce) can leave the worst stains, so this is one that you’ll want to address instantly. First, mix one tablespoon of Dawn dish soap with two cups of cold water. Then, using a clean cotton cloth, sponge up the stain with the solution. Blot until the liquid is soaked up. Continue sponging and blotting until the stain is gone or is no longer absorbed into your cloth.

How to Remove Red Wine

Just like cranberry, red wine is notorious for leaving nasty stains. Believe it or not, though, the best way to clean red wine out of a carpet is with… white wine! First, soak up the red wine from your carpet by placing a clean cotton towel over the spill and standing on top of it. Your full body weight will apply more pressure to the stain and absorb more of the liquid. Lastly, put some white wine in a spray bottle and mist it over the red wine stain. Rinse and repeat
