What To Do After Your House Has Suffered From Water Damage

Water in any unwanted spots can cause a lot of water damage. Not only can it ruin your belongings, but also the house in which they’re stored. If you can act quickly, you can minimize any damage and possibly save some of your possessions. Some of your success depends on how long the water has been around. Furniture and carpet can often be restored, but electronics that have been touched by water are probably ruined. Here are some tips on how to deal with water damage in your home. If you need assistance, call Hydro Clean Certified Restoration to help you with any water damage issues!

Water Damage Restoration

Disconnect the Power, Unplug Electronics, and Remove Furniture, Electronics, and Movable Items

The quicker you can get items out of the way, the more likely you’ll be able to save them from water damage. Move all electrical items first, and if possible, turn off your power leading into the affected areas, especially if the water rises above electrical outlets. Pull up your carpets and padding as well. If you need help moving and storing all your electronics, Hydro Clean can give you the assistance you need.

Remove Any Water

There are many ways to get rid of the water. If you don’t have power or are worried about any loose wires, the old-fashioned, manual way might work. Use any old towels, buckets, or mops to soak up as much water as you can. As long as the sewers in your neighborhood aren’t backed up, you can then pour the water down the drain. Otherwise, pour onto your lawn or other porous surfaces. A wet or dry vacuum can also be used to clean up the water damage.

Dry Out the Affected Areas

Once you’ve mopped up the water, use fans or a dehumidifier to assist in drying out the area. If it has stopped raining, open any windows to allow for air circulations and quicker drying. You want to dry out the area as soon as possible.

You will likely need a hand in cleaning up your home after water damage has taken its toll. Hydro Clean Certified Restoration has certified technicians available 24/7 to assist you with restoration and cleanup in a quick, effective and efficient manner!
