How to Get Your Children to Help with House Cleaning

Being able to clean quickly and effectively is one of life’s most daunting challenges. Getting your family into the habit of being as neat and tidy when they’re young will set an excellent example for them once they get older. You don’t want to be strict or stern, especially when they do something wrong. After all, they are still learning, and even adults can still learn a few new tricks when it comes to efficient house cleaning.

Make It Fun

Cleaning the house can be extremely tedious. It’s not always the most fun, especially when compared to other chores. But even if you wait until you are home alone to tackle the cleaning by putting on loud music and singing along while you work, you can do something similar when teaching kids how to clean up after themselves, whether it’s a mess they made or not. All you have to do is to make it fun, even a game. Cleaning up the bedroom is more fun when you have a fun playlist of songs – and you can help your kids learn new words and improve their listening and speaking abilities to boot! Offering rewards and presents for cleaning more quickly but still doing a good job is also another great way to make cleaning more enjoyable.

Children to Help with House Cleaning

Create Rules

However, as much fun as you want to make the experience, it can’t be unstructured. Kids of all ages do need some structure to go with their imagination – after all, they could think of a solution to a problem that has puzzled you for months. The critical part here is to create rules – they can’t yell at or torment their siblings while cleaning, for instance. Come up with house rules that make sense that can help keep the house cleaning – all books, toys, and games should go back to where they were found. Another way to cut down on clutter inside the house, especially when it comes to making house cleaning easier, is to have them donate a toy or put it away in long term storage whenever they receive a new toy.

Spend Time Together

You don’t have to do all the cleaning inside the house by yourself. Ask your kids and spouse to pitch in however they can. After all, not only is it a great learning experience, it’s also a way to spend more time together and build a strong bond with one another.
