The Sources of All the Dust in Your Home

August 23, 2019

Dust is one of the most prominent allergies, no matter what time of year it is. If you already suffer from pollen allergies, then you know how miserable life can get it. Dusting is a task that can be tedious, and it’s often one of the tasks you can outsource to professional cleaners. Even so, one question remains: what are the sources of all the dust in your home?

The Main Sources

How to Keep Your Home Dust Free

One of the primary sources of dust is the HVAC system. The HVAC system in your home helps keep you fresh in the summer and warm in the winter. However, all of that work will also mean that it can quickly become clogged with dust. The air filters need to be changed out at regular intervals. If you don’t know how to do this, then it’s probably smarter to have a professional come and do it for you. The air ducts are another source of the dust in your home. It may not be readily apparent at first, but it could be a sign that your ducts are overdue for a cleaning. Holes in the ductwork allow dust to escape and spread out wherever they are most unwelcome – namely your walls, floors, and furniture!

Minimizing Dust Exposure

There are some steps you can take to control the amount of dust that is in your home. Using an air purifier can make a huge difference, especially if you already have trouble breathing. The filters need to be swapped out every so often to avoid clogs from defeating the purpose of the devices. Taking the time to mop and clean the walls can also eliminate the dust that settles everywhere. Vacuuming and sweeping can collect some of the debris, but water is going to be your best friend. Investing in microfiber products is another solution for the remaining residue that you couldn’t pick up before.

Stopping Dust in Its Tracks

Getting rid of any clutter in your home is one way to prevent dust from forming. Replacing cloth and linen surfaces with leather or wood can also reduce the amount of dust that you keep finding. Clean out your closets whenever they get too full and store excess clothing in bags or boxes that are sealed against dust and moisture damage. This is because summer humidity can last even deep into the fall. Try making it a house rule not to wear shoes around the house, and take the time to groom your pets every day.
